The students of Nancy Grayson Elementary School partnered with the employees of DB Schenker (Procter & Gamble Warehousing) to exchange banners encouraging each other to be safe while at school or work. The quote by Dr. Seuss "To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world" is used as a reminder that we have special people in our lives who want us to be safe and not get hurt. The students signed a banner for DB Schenker and the employees of DB Schenker signed a banner for the students. Signatures showed support of being safe, not only ourselves, but for others who love us. The goal of this project is to have the students be safe while at school and to have the employees of DB Schenker reduce work related injuries.

Kudos to the elementary and middle school students in Shippensburg who created a card for children in the Children's Hospital in Hershey! Over 1,000 were created! This feat was the idea of Caden Yonish, a SAMS student, who provided coordination and collection of the cards with the help of his parents and siblings.
See the attached pictures. Caden and family delivered the cards to Hershey earlier today!

For the second consecutive year, Shippensburg Area Senior
High School has made the Advanced Placement District Honor Roll. The
honor consists of 433 school districts in the United States and Canada.
These districts have achieved both increases in access to Advanced Placement
courses as well as maintained or improved the rate at which their Advanced
Placement students earned scores of 3 or higher out of a possible 5 on an
Advanced Placement Exam. Congratulations to the faculty, staff, and
students at Shippensburg Area High School for this honor!

Each year, the Division of
Federal Programs honors the top performing Title I schools in
Pennsylvania. This year, the Shippensburg Area Intermediate School was
selected to be a Title I Distinguished School. SAIS was selected based on
PSSA composite scores of math and English Language Arts (ELA), using the Pennsylvania
Value Added Assessment System (PVAAS) indices for the schools, participation and graduation/attendance objectives.
179 Title I schools were selected to be named Distinguished Schools. We
are proud of our academic growth and recognize our students and staff for their
hard work and commitment!

Shippensburg Area High School raised over $700 to assist a family in need this week. Students dropped coins in the jar of the High School employee they wished to see kissing a bovine.
There was a tie for the winners who were Mr. Levy and Mrs. Paula Morris! Thanks to both for their willingness to participate, all for a good cause!
Also, thanks to Christine Helm, SASD alumnae Krystal Helm, and their parents for providing the Hereford steer for the event, the transportation to and from school, and all the preparation involved!
This steer will be shown by Christine and sold at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg in early January and has special well-wishes from Mr. Levy and Mrs. Morris!

The Greyhound Award which is given to the Shippensburg Area
School District school with the largest increase in the school’s SPP score each
year was presented to the High School in October but the “physical award” had
not arrived yet.
It has now arrived and I want to thank Mr. Kurtz at SAHS for
crafting the base and attaching the Greyhounds to it . . . see the attached
picture.
The Greyhound Award will be on display at SAHS. The
question now is, “which school will host The Greyhound Award” for 2017-18?
Thank you Mr. Kurtz and Congratulations to everyone at the

Please be aware that the School Custodians are continuing to clean/disinfect known areas where the identified students have been, but also know that it is an airborne disease. and First Grade Students Nancy Grayson Elementary 301 Lurgan Avenue
Shippensburg, PA 17257
Dear Tanya Allard and First Graders:
Congratulations! You were selected as the one and only very talented and wonderfully polite class
to be named the Grand Prize Winner in our "ARRRRR Class is Polite!" Poster Contest!
We were so happy to hear from students across the country about all the good manners they use in
school (and, of course, outside of school too!) The posters we reviewed during the judging sessions
were extremely creative and fun to see. It was very challenging to narrow down the submissions and
pick winners. But after much careful consideration, we made our decisions and your class poster was
at the very top!
As the Grand Prize Winner , your class will be visited by David Catrow who has illustrated many
wonderful books including Are Pirates Polite! As part of his visit, he will offer you a very
special art lesson to your class. I will be contacting Ms. Allard soon
· to schedule the visit and make all the arrangements.

SAIS has multiple classrooms that created themes to discuss how to stop bullying, strategies to help students in need, and include all students in our activities. Just in case you haven’t heard, the School Performance
Profile ratings were released yesterday. Below are the results of each of
the Shipp schools.
Grades K-8 had no SPP scores for last year due to the reset
with the new standards. Teachers are reviewing their own PVAAS data and
making adjustments as needed as we move forward in a spirit of continuous
improvement.
Please spread the good news and take time to CELEBRATE each
schools’ successes! (hear the theme song to “The Jeffersons” playing in the
background!)
Enjoy the weekend ahead! Take time to enjoy the fall
foliage too!
