Paws Applause:
We are pleased to announce that James (Jim) Smith, a Senior at Shippensburg Area High School has been selected as one of only two students to represent Pennsylvania as a delegate to the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) to be held in Washington, D.C. March 4 – 11, 2017. Jim will also receive a $10,000 college scholarship.
The USSYP was founded in 1962 through Senate Resolution and each year two of the highest-achieving students from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education system overseas are selected through an extremely competitive merit-based selection process held at the state departments of education nationwide.
Congratulations to Jim and his parents, Steve & Jan Smith!

SAIS was selected as a Title I Distinguished School for the 2016-2017 school year based on student growth, achievement and participation/attendance. SAIS will be listed in the program as a Distinguished School in the upcoming state Title I conference. The SAIS Faculty, Staff, and Principal recently sent in a proposal to present a session at the conference and are eagerly waiting to see if their session is selected.
We are proud of the continued growth at SAIS!

Congratulations to Amanda Addlesberger, the PBIS team, and the entire James Burd staff for being awarded two Pennsylvania Department of Education PBIS grants. The total amount for both grants is $10,800. In addition, James Burd is now recognized as a PBIS model school. As a model school, James Burd will serve as a demonstration site for other schools to visit that are looking to implement PBIS.
Congrats to the entire JBES team!!

A huge thank you to Cabela’s for their donation and support of our hiking unit at the middle school. They were excited to hear about our program and what our students are learning. Our students will benefit from their equipment for years to come. Kudos to Fitness & Wellness teachers Mr. Jason Hoover and Mrs. Lauren Yost for incorporating the hiking unit into their curriculum!
