Q: Why is a Section 780 Hearing necessary?
A: The State of Pennsylvania requires a Public Hearing before any public school can be closed. The PA Code provides a lengthy timeline which must be adhered to if this is the wish of the Board. The Board has stated that they wish to conduct the public hearing so that GBLUES can be an option on the table to balance the FY18 budget if needed. Because of the PA Code, they cannot wait until spring to begin the public hearing process.
Thank you for the inquiry.
