Paws Applause:

Nick Bigham, a 2015 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School, and currently a Chemistry major at Shippensburg University, has recently been selected to participate in the American Chemical Society Summer School in Nuclear and Radiochemistry at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York.   Nick is one of only 12 highly qualified applicants selected from a pool of over 130 applicants nationwide.  The six week summer program will allow Nick the opportunity to visit research sites, attend a guest lecture series, and meet and interact with prominent research scientists working in nuclear and radiochemistry.  The summer school program was founded as an educational outreach and workforce development activity to promote expertise in nuclear science and to provide trained personnel to meet national needs in nuclear research, the nuclear power industry, and nuclear medicine.

Brookhaven National Laboratory is a multipurpose research institution funded primarily by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science that operates cutting-edge facilities for studies in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, applied science, and a wide range of advanced technologies. The Laboratory's almost 3,000 scientists, engineers, and support staff are joined each year by more than 4,000 visiting researchers from around the world.

Congratulations to Nick!  Nick has been taught and mentored by Mr. John Kasarda, SAHS Chemistry teacher, and Dr. Joe Shane, Chemistry Professor at Shippensburg University.

Another Greyhound making us proud!
