Employee Spotlight - June 2017

Mrs. Michele M. Dubbs

Name and current position:  Michele M. Dubbs, Secondary Education Counselor

Building(s) served: Senior High School

High School attended:  Owen J. Roberts High School, Pottstown, PA., 1982

College(s) attended (if applicable):  Bloomsburg University, BA, Psychology 1986, Shippensburg University, MEd, Secondary Counseling, 1988.

Year started at SASD and position:  1990-91, Secondary Ed Counselor

Most unusual incident on the job:  I called the Cumberland County Courthouse Switchboard to be connected and generate a student referral with the Children and Youth Agency.  Simultaneously, a person outside of the district also called into the Courthouse Switchboard to “CALL IN A BOMB THREAT.”  Within 20 minutes, I had Two State Police, The Superintendent, The Principal and a Bomb Squad Representative in My office claiming, it was “I” who called in the Bomb Threat!  Thankfully, they were able to ascertain the actual culprit.  This was obviously prior to the inception of a Computerized Call Center.  Counselors typically do not blow things up, we actively seek to prevent this event from occurring.
Extra assignments: SAT/PSAT Administration, Crisis Plan Assistant, Ship Start Administration, Lunch Duty, Guidance Website development, Counseling Presentations i.e., College/Career Day, and Parchment

Hobbies: Baking (Pies and Scones are my favorite to create), Bicycling and Kayaking, (lessens the stress), Traveling, (to NYC to see my daughter, Kara and with my husband Roy to many places in Europe, US, Caribbean) and Reading (both esoteric and spiritual).

Your hero(s):  Jim Henson and Fred Rogers, “They both created safe and magical spaces for all “children” which enabled us to Dream, Discover, Investigate and Imagine.” They are heroes in my estimation, as they assist a child’s growth and personality development.

Pet peeve:  The action of someone not opening or holding the door for another….

Five minutes with:  My Parents, I miss them each and every day.  They instilled in me respectability, responsibility, a deliberate work ethic, commonsense and sincere compassion.

Favorite movie:  “A Muppet’s Christmas Carol,” The Story line of Redemption being told by Kermit the Frog and his friends is simply splendid! The Musical Score, is outstanding, “Life is filled with sweet surprises, Every day’s a gift”…from, Bless us All.

What would people find surprising about you?  Meeting new people is not always easy for me.  Attending Conferences, and connecting with others on a large scale, makes me uncomfortable.
