Paws Applause:
Shippensburg Lions Club
Provides Safety Buckets to Ship
Schools
For more than a year
the Shippensburg Lions Club has been working on a project for the benefit of
the Shippensburg Area School District.
They have been soliciting funds and items to assemble 200 ‘safety
buckets’. These buckets contain items
that can be used in classrooms and other areas of the school buildings in case
of a natural emergency or a school lockdown.
Items to be placed in the 5 gallon buckets were
collected after consultation with the local chief of police and fire chief as
well as the Shippensburg Area School District Superintendent and the school
principals.
Many local businesses and individuals can be
thanked for their support of the project.
The 200 5-gallon buckets were donated by the Shippensburg Lowe’s; the
400+ bottles of water (for washing wounds) were donated by Newville Pepsi
Bottling Plant; the 200+ ace bandages
were donated by the Robert T. Henry Pharmacy;
the toilet paper and trash bags were donated by the Giant grocery store
(by means of gift cards); the 200+ rolls
of paper towels were donated by the Weis Grocery Store; Pague and Fegan Hardware gave a very good
discount on the hammers and duct tape; and the Lions Club bought the 200 fleece
blankets.
There were also a number of financial donations
of at least $100. These donors were
Volvo Construction and Equipment, Century 21 Realty, JLG Industries, Premier
Events Catering and the Robert T. Henry Pharmacy.
The Lions Club is
paid for cloth covers for the buckets that can easily be removed if
needed. The covers were
screen-printed with the logos of the contributors mentioned.
